Blazers .500 on marathon road trip

The Kamloops Blazers returned home from their 11-day eastern road trip with a .500 record, winning three and dropping a trio to climb within four points of the Prince George Cougars and the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Hockey League’s B.C. Division – though the Cougars have three games in hand.
The Blazers will enjoy a few days of rest and relaxation before embarking on another road trip – a three-game swing that will take the club to Cranbrook on Friday to play the Ice, to Spokane on Saturday to face the Chiefs and to Kelowna on Valentine’s Day to battle the Rockets.
Kamloops finally returns to the Interior Savings Centre on Feb. 17 to battle Kelowna.
Highlights of the Prairie trip:
n Jan. 27 at Swift Current: Moises Gutierrez scored twice and added an assist in Kamloops’ 6-3 win.
Brock Nixon also scored twice, including 14 seconds in, with Reid Jorgensen and Brady Mason adding singles. The Blazers scored four times on their first six shots, but were outshot overall 27-23.
Devan Dubnyk picked up the win in goal, while Travis Yonkman took the loss in relief for the Broncos.
n Jan. 28 at Regina:
Matt Robinson scored 26 seconds in as the Pats rolled to a 4-1 win in the Queen City.
Jorgensen scored the only Blazer goal at the 44-second mark of the first period. Regina outshot Kamloops 32-26, with David Reekie getting the win and Dubnyk taking the loss.
The Blazers were 0-for-6 on the power play and 6-for-8 on the penalty kill.
n Jan. 31 at Moose Jaw:
Troy Brouwer, Kenndal McArdle and Dustin Boyd each had a goal and two assists as the Warriors beat Kamloops 8-3.
Joel Eisenkirch, T.J. Mulock and Jorgensen scored for the Blazers as they outshout Moose Jaw, 37-33.
n Feb. 1 at Brandon:
Terrance Delaronde (two goals, one assist), Kevin Hayman (three assists) and Travis Dunstall (one goal, one assist) combined for eight points and a plus-9 rating as the Blazers rolled to a 6-2 win over the Wheat Kings.
n Feb. 3 at Saskatoon:
Brad Cole and Devin Setoguchi scored third-period goals as the Blades rallied to beat the Blazers 2-1.
Nixon scored the lone Blazer goal.
n Feb. 4 at Prince Albert:
Jorgensen posted the hat trick as the Blazers posted a 5-2 win over the Raiders.
Nixon scored shorthanded while Scott Skrudland scored his first WHL goal.
