Singh Park goes green with new solar-power system
Singh Bowl Park is the most recent of the city’s facilities to go green with the installation of a new solar-power system to power the washroom building, parking-lot lighting and irrigation system.
The system consists of a dozen 230-watt panels installed on the south-facing side of the washroom building roof.
Power is generated by the panels and used by the facility.
Any excess power is supplied back to the BC Hydro grid for use elsewhere.
The system is expected to crate a net-zero facility with the amount of energy produced eventually meeting all the demands of the building.
A meter installed on the building at the end of July has shown the system has been producing more power than needed.
Weather and usage will cause adjustments in power use throughout the year.
