Global Awareness group invites you to Rwanda presentation

The Kamloops Global Awareness Network is inviting all Kamloopsians to attend Reconstructing Rwanda, the first international guest-speaker presentation of the Global Speakers Series.

It takes place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Desert Gardens Community Centre, 540 Seymour St.

The Global Speakers Series aims to bring international speakers from various countries to Kamloops to speak about international-development projects around the world.

The presentation will be delivered by Lama Mugabo, founder of Building Bridges with Rwanda Consulting Services (BBR), a community development-planning firm based in Kigali, Rwanda.

Lama studied and worked in Canada before repatriating to his native Rwanda, where he facilitates North-South collaboration projects focusing on sustainable-development work.

Lama will discuss the Rwandan genocide and various reconstruction efforts to form vibrant, economically stable communities. There will be a question-and-answer session following the 30- to 40-minute presentation.

There will also be an opportunity to learn about Lama's local connections to  Kamloops and how to get involved.

This is a free community event and coffee, tea, and cookies will be served. Doors open at 6:40 p.m.

For more information or to RSVP, call Kamloops Global Awareness Network’s regional coordinator, Sarah Johnstone, at 250-299-1282, email kamloopsglobalawarness@gmail.com, or visit KGAN’s website here.

Formed in late 2011, the Kamloops Global Awareness Network is a network of individuals and non-governmental organizations working to promote international-development effectiveness and social justice.
