Prolific in jail after attempted robbery
A prolific offender is facing new charges after an attempted robbery last week, police say.
Kamloops RCMP Const. Rose Dunsmore said Mounties were called to the area of 10th Avenue and Victoria Street at about 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, after a 22-year-old man said he was approached by an armed would-be robber demanding money.
The victim said he tried to flag down passing vehicles and the suspect fled.
Police tracked down the 36-year-old suspect a few hours later and he was taken into custody.
Investigators found a screwdriver — believed to be the weapon — and tools commonly used in vehicle and home break-ins in his possession.
Russell Brownlee is facing one count of robbery and breach charges.
He’s been remanded in custody and is slated to return to court on Feb. 10.
Anyone who witnessed the incident can call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
