On two wheels? Make sure you know rules of road
With high fuel costs and improving weather, many Kamloops residents are choosing to get around via bicycle.
Kamloops Mounties have noticed common infractions in cycle traffic and want residents to know that they will be enforcing fines this bicycle season.
“During the summer cycling season, our officers are going to be taking a zero-tollerance approach, specifically with respect to the helmet law,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said.
Mounties will be handing out fines of $29 for cycling without a helmet and $109 each for cycling on a sidewalk, cycling at night without lights and against cycling against the flow of traffic.
Cyclists are required to abide by the Motor Vehicle Act.
Learned said discretion will be used at all times and police will be taking advantage of educational opportunities.
“Our focus is to ensure everyone has a safe time,” he said.
