Teen faces charges

A Kamloops teenager is expected to face robbery charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle at knifepoint and fleeing west on the Coquihalla Highway.

Police say the ordeal began at about 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, when the resident of a home in the 900-block of Moncton Avenue was startled awake by an acquaintance barging into his bedroom armed with a 12-inch kitchen knife.

Staff-Sgt. Grant Learned said the 18-year-old suspect threatened suicide and demanded the 49-year-old victim's car — a blue 1990 Ford Taurus.

Kamloops Mounties issued bulletins to police in other cities, and a car matching the description was spotted by an officer in Hope at about 12:30 p.m.

Learned said the suspect was arrested without incident in Hope.

He was slated to be returned to Kamloops.

His name has not been released.
