Who was that masked man?
Kamloops Mounties are crediting a Kamloops teenager who “did the right thing” after she was approached by a suspicious masked man driving a van as she walked home from school on Wednesday, June 29.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said the 14-year-old girl was walking in the area of Pine Springs Road and Westsyde Road just before noon when distinctive minivan pulled up beside her.
The girl told police the van was white with a horizontal blue stripe down the side.
The driver, she said, appeared to be a man wearing a “full-face rubber mask” depicting an elderly woman.
Learned said the driver told the girl to get in to the van.
“The youth ran away and the suspect vehicle was last seen departing the area southbound on Westsyde Road,” he said.
The girl went home and told her parents, who called police.
Learned said patrols of the area turned up no sign of the van.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
