VIDEO: Flash flood creates small rockslide on Overlanders Bridge
An intense storm with heavy rain, plenty of lightning and crackling thunder rumbled through Kamloops at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, leaving in its wake much carnage, including this small rockslide at the south end of Overlanders Bridge.
A flash flood carried the rocks, big and medium-sized, down the normally dry creekbed and onto the bridge, sending debris over all four lanes.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damages, though vehicles passing through created many a ping — the sound of rocks being thrown up by their tires and into their undercarriage.
Elsewhere, a woman was rescued from her Acura SUV when it was swallowed by water in the flooded underpass at Battle Street and 10th Avenue.
The woman turned to travel through the underpass during the storm, only to drive into about five feet of water.
Video and photos from that incident can be seen elswehere on kamloopsthisweek.com.
Environment Canada's forecast called for a mainly cloudy Tuesday night with a 70 per cent chance of showers or thundershowers this evening.
There were no weather warnings issued on its website.
