Arrest in violent alley mugging
One man is in custody after a violent downtown mugging last week.
Police say a 59-year-old woman was walking in the alley behind McDonald’s on Victoria Street in downtown Kamloops at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, when she was attacked by a man.
The suspect, a 26-year-old native man, allegedly kneed the woman in the crotch five times before taking her jewelry.
He was arrested a short time later and a subsequent search turned up jewelry matching the items stolen.
Police believe the same man might be responsible for an earlier attempted mugging in the same area.
The investigation is ongoing.
