Rule to be dog-gone?

The city is expected during the Tuesday, Aug. 30, council meeting to loosen the collar on tight rules around its aggressive-dog policy.

City staff are asking council to suspend a requirement that owners provide specific liability insurance for aggressive dogs.

The city has always required liability insurance as part of homeowner policies, but a tougher specific liability clause was introduced to the city’s dog responsibility and control bylaw after it was overhauled earlier this year.

However, a staff report noted that, due to growing concerns within the insurance industry, most dog owners are unable to meet the city’s insurance requirements for aggressive dogs.
