Subcommittees to help social planning group

The City of Kamloops and city council have created four committees to act as advisory bodies to the Kamloops social-planning council.

The subcommittees will meet quarterly to discuss social issues in the community and develop direction for consideration by the social-planning council.

The city is inviting service agencies and the public to contact each subcommittee’s liaison, listed below, if they have concerns, questions or issues to bring to light.

n Seniors advisory committee:

The focus is on:

• Enhancing access to city services for seniors, the elderly and their families.

• Identifying and suggesting solutions to gaps and barriers that impede the full participation of seniors and the elderly in all aspects of city life.

• Forming partnerships with the community and acting as a public forum for issues affecting seniors.

The next meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 7.

n Youth Children and Families Committee:

• The committee ensures children, youth, parents and providers are involved in the decisions made within the City of Kamloops and in the community that affect them, their families and friends.

The next meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 28.

n Diversity Advisory Committee:

• The committee concentrates on matters pertaining to an understanding and appreciation of diversity and the inclusion of aboriginal and ethnic communities into the social fabric of Kamloops.

The next meeting is Monday, Sept. 19.

n  Mayor’s Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities:

• The committee concentrates on matters pertaining to persons with disabilities and their community well-being.

The next meeting is Friday, Sept. 9.
