City releases FOI documents to KTW
In late September, Kamloops This Week filed a freedom of information request with the City of Kamloops, asking for information on the communication between the city and Northland Properties, the Tom Gaglardi-owned company that purchased city land on the south side of Lorne Street to build a Signature Sandman Hotel.
Gaglardi, who has this week purchased the NHL's Dallas Stars, is also majority owner of the Kamloops Blazers and the Lorne Street property deal included an agreement for the Blazers to manage advertising within Interior Savings Centre, which is located across the street from the Sandman site.
The city has maintained the Sandman was in no way connected to council's decision to build a two-level parkade directly across from the hotel and Mayor Peter Milobar has consistently stated Gaglardi had no interest in including public parking in his project.
The parkade was ultimately killed when a counter-petition movement garnered enough signatures to snuff the $8-million proposal.
Attached is information provided to Kamloops This Week by the city, along with a copy of the August 2009 Lorne Street parking and traffic study.
