Smile! You are now on red-light camera!
Kamloops’ lone red-light camera is now active.
The intersection eye in the sky is located at the busy corner of Tranquille Road, Fortune Drive and Eighth Street in North Kamloops.
It is one of 140 such cameras in B.C.
The provincial government, police and ICBC said the North Kamloops site was chosen as it is routinely among the intersections in the city with the most accidents.
“On an average day in B.C., about 230 crashes take place at intersections,” said Kamloops-North Thompson Liberal MLA Terry Lake, in whose riding the camera will operate.
“That’s 230 too many. This program helps by providing another incentive to drive safely and removing unsafe drivers from the road.”
Running a red light carries with it a fine of $167.
