Kamloops brass in national memorial
In the spring of this year, Kamloops Fire Rescue gave brass hose couplings to the Harman Foundry in Red Deer.
The hose couplings had been in service in Kamloops since the early 1960s.
Last week, the fire department was told the couplings will be used in the casting of the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Ottawa.
The memorial has been in the works for more than a decade and is scheduled to officially open in 2012.
The bronze elements are scheduled to be completed in March and delivered to Ottawa in early April.
The official dedication of the new memorial and remembrance ceremony will take place in September.
The Harman Foundry has done some significant works in the past, such as the Terry Fox memorials in Ottawa and Vancouver, and the Parliament Hill bronze statue of Queen Elizabeth on horseback.
