NDP contender arrives
Another contender vying to take the helm of the New Democratic Party of Canada is stopping by the Tournament Capital.
Quebec NDP MP Thomas Mulcair will be in Kamloops on Tuesday, Jan. 10, as part of a leadership tour in B.C.
He will lead a lecture on the topic of international politics at Thompson Rivers University in the morning and meet with party members at the Smorgasbord Deli, 225 Seventh Ave., at 1 p.m.
Mulcair is the third candidate to visit the city during the leadership race to succeed the late Jack Layton.
Brian Topp was in Kamloops in October and MP Nathan Cullen was here in November.
During Topp’s stop, he picked up support from local high-profile party members, including Fraser-Nicola NDP MLA Harry Lali and federal NDP candidate Michael Crawford.
Mulcair is one of eight candidates looking to lead the party following the death of Layton in August to cancer.
Other candidates include Paul Dewar, Peggy Nash, Niki Ashton, Roméo Saganash and Martin Singh.
The race to replace Layton began in September and will wind up with a leadership convention and vote in Toronto on March 24.
