Kamloops Mounties confronted by armed man
A Kamloops-area man will likely face weapons charges after allegedly pointing a firearm at a police officer over the weekend.
Mounties from the Kamloops Rural RCMP detachment were called to an incident on Benchlands Road in Skeetchestn at about 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, for a report of a man high on drugs and trashing a house.
When officers found the 22-year-old man, he pointed what appeared to be a gun at them.
Police directed the man to drop the weapon, which he did.
He was arrested, and officers determined the weapon was actually a pellet gun.
Kamloops RCMP Const. Michelle Kerpan said police will be recommending a charge of pointing a firearm be laid against the man.
He was held in custody until sober, and then released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
EASTER CRIME SPREE
Easter was not happy for a number of Kamloops motorists who fell victim to long-weekend crooks, police say.
Kamloops RCMP Const. Michelle Kerpan said Mounties received multiple reports of vehicle break-ins over the weekend, both in Upper Sahali and on the North Shore.
Items stolen included bags, wallets, purses, cash and credit cards.
Kerpan said a number of the vehicles were left unlocked, meaning easy access for criminals.
She said the thefts should serve as a reminder to remove valuables from plain sight and lock car doors.
