Riverside Park lights up for 4/20
About 75 people gathered at the Riverside Park bandshell this afternoon to celebrate 4/20 — a day circled on the calendars of pot smokers everywhere.
At 4:20 p.m. — on April 20 (4/20) — smokers lit up.
The event was the first of its kind for Kamloops, and was sponsored by the Canadian Safe Cannabis Society.
Similar observations were held in cities across Canada, the U.S. and as far away as New Zealand.
Kamloops Mounties were not present at Riverside Park during the light up. Earlier in the day, police issued a statement saying they would respond to the park only if an issue arose.
