Cooking up a $2-million win
Only $210?
That’s what Kamloops cook San Hua thought when he checked his lottery ticket last week.
He soon realized he had actually won the May 16 BC/49 $2-million jackpot.
San, 44, purchased the ticket from the Eighth Street Hasty Market.
As a result, the ABC Family Restaurant employee is Kamloops’ newest multi-millionaire.
San said he has been playing the same numbers for the past year.
After realizing how much he had won, San made a call to his brother, Hong Hua.
Hong said at first he was excited, but skeptical when he got the call.
“OK, I was excited. Now I’m still not believing yet,” Hong said of the phone call from his brother.
Hong went to doublecheck the ticket. Sure enough, his brother had matched all six numbers drawn.
San said he is overjoyed after winning the lottery.
“I feel very happy right now,” he said.
“I don’t know how to say all the feeling.”
Having $2 million land in his lap, San knows where he needs to spend his money first.
“First thing I got to pay off — my mortgage and my debt,” he said.
Hong said he does not know how his brother will use his newfound wealth, but he hopes San saves a thought for his sibling.
“I hope he can give me a little bit,” Hua said with a laugh.
San’s big win is the third significant lotto jackpot to be claimed by a Kamloopsian this year.
In April, Sadie Haison won the $500,000 prize in the Lotto Max Extra draw.
In February, Richard Bankier claimed the $500,000 prize when his four Lotto 6/49Extra numbers matched those drawn.
