Police remind public of liquor fines
The Canada Day long weekend beckons and the Kamloops RCMP is reminding people to play it smart and safe — lest they incur the wrath of many fines.
Mounties will employ extra resources on roads, in parks, on foot and bike patrols and in the air with the RCMP helicopter.
Police say there is a comprehensive operational plan in place and officers will be looking for federal, provincial and municipal violations.
People are reminded that many fines involving the misuse of alcohol were increased on Jan. 1.
The following offences carry a fine of $230: Purchase by a minor, consumption by a minor, minor in a liquor establishment, minor in possession, presenting false identification, consuming liquor in a public place, supplying liquor to an intoxicated person, allow an intoxicated person on premises and possessing opened liquor in a motor vehicle,
Being intoxicated in a public place carries a fine of $115.
