Teens admit to Westsyde grass fire
As sage brush in the area burned, the flames of a grass fire in Westsyde briefly shot up as high as 14 feet this afternoon (July 4).
But Kamloops assistant fire chief Dennis Fayers said the blaze in the hills just behind Orcrest Drive never seriously threatened any of the homes in the area.
"It probably looked more dramatic than it was," Fayers said.
Kamloops Fire and Rescure arrived on the scene shortly after the burn was reported, and were able to surround and suppress the fire.
Fayers said a small group of teenagers has admitted to starting the fire, but say it was accidental. Investigators have not yet determined what, if any, consequences the youths will face.
