Palestinians arrested near Kamloops
Two Palestinian nationals suspected of entering Canada illegally are in the custody of border guards following their arrest near Kamloops earlier this week.
But, how and why they arrived in the area remains a mystery.
“Two foreign nationals were arrested by the RCMP on Tuesday evening [Sept. 18] and turned over to the CBSA on Wednesday,” Canada Border Services Agency spokeswoman Stefanie Wudel told KTW.
“Generally, when a foreign national is arrested by the police, the person may be handed over to the CBSA if there are no outstanding criminal matters.”
Wudel said investigators will now look at whether the suspects are legally entitled to be in Canada.
“If they’re found to be inadmissible, then they’re removed,” she said.
The Kamloops Crown office said it has no files regarding the foreign nationals and neither does the federal Department of Justice.
Wudel said circumstances vary case by case. She couldn’t put a timeline on when the suspects might appear for an immigration hearing.
