Kamloops psych patient on the lam — again
A Kamloops psychiatric patient who was earlier this year described as "violent, mentally unstable and suicidal" is once again on the lam.
Ashley Patrick Koftinoff was the subject of a rare RCMP public-safety alert after failing to return to the Hillside Psychiatric Centre on July 16 after being released on a one-hour pass.
The 37-year-old was tracked down three days later at a fast-food restaurant in Invermere.
Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned confirmed Koftinoff is once again missing from the psych facility — located just south of Royal Inland Hospital — but said he couldn't provide any additional information.
Koftinoff's run from the law in July followed a violent incident with police just days earlier, in which the convicted drug dealer threatened to behead cops.
Mounties eventually Tasered Koftinoff to subdue him.
Koftinoff — described as a white man, standing six feet and weighing just over 200 pounds with short brown hair and brown eyes — is slated to appear in a Castlegar courtroom next month on charges of threats and drug trafficking.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts can call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
