Cavers wants meter payment option
Coun. Donovan Cavers is hoping to make it easier for Kamloops residents to cover the cost of having their water meters buried in their yards.
Some homeowners have chosen to have their meters installed in pits, rather than in their homes, due to concerns about wireless technology or health issues — a choice that comes with a $1,000 price tag.
Cavers said he has received complaints that the price is a hardship for some residents.
“A lot of people have tight budgets right now,” he said.
While Cavers doesn’t want the fee reduced, he put forth a notice of motion at council’s Tuesday, Nov. 6, meeting that would allow residents to spread the cost of a pit installation over four monthly payments of $250.
