Deer jumps into path of car, closing Highway 1
A collision between a car and a deer forced police to shut the Trans-Canada Highway west of Kamloops on Friday, Nov. 16.
At about 8:30 a.m., Mounties were alerted to the collision involving a Chrysler Sebring being driven by a 57-year-old Savona woman.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said the woman was driving east toward Kamloops when the deer jumped across the road in front of her vehicle near Tobiano.
"The impact with the deer caused significant damage to the front end and windshield of her vehicle, making it impossible to drive," he said.
The eastbound lane of Highway 1 was closed until the car was towed and the deer was removed by a highway crew.
Learned said the woman was checked at the scene by paramedics and found to be uninjured.
The highway has since re-opened.
