Five critical injuries after highway pileup south of Kamloops
A multi-vehicle collision on the Coquihalla Highway near Kamloops has sent as many as 30 people to hospital.
The crash took place just after 6 p.m. today (Nov. 21) near the Inks Lake exit.
Initial reports indicate as many as 20 vehicles — including a number of big rigs and a bus — were involved, and that there are numerous injuries.
Between 20 and 30 people suffering injuries were transported from the scene, about 15 minutes southwest of Kamloops, to Royal Inland Hospital.
RIH issued an emergency-triage code to deal with the onslaught of injured patients.
Five of the injuries are believed to be critical.
The northbound lanes of the Coquihalla are closed south of Kamloops, and are not expected to open until some time between midnight and 4 a.m.
Roads were reportedly slick at the time of the crash.
