Coroner probing death at Sun Peaks Resort
The BC Coroners Service is investigating the weekend death of a 24-year-old Kamloops man at Sun Peaks Resort.
Nick Guido died early in the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 25, after he crashed into a metal support of a ski chairlift while sledding down a hill on a crazy carpet earlier that day.
Guido attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help school before graduating from NorKam secondary in 2005. He was a student at Thompson Rivers University, majoring in accounting.
BC Ambulance Service confirmed it responded to a 911 call at 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, and that Guido was in critical condition. He was taken to Royal Inland Hospital.
Sun Peaks Mayor Al Raine said he was told emergency services were summoned to “an injury at the bottom on the slope” and that the person was unconscious.
Raine said he was told the person was still breathing when the ambulance left for the hospital.
Staff there said privacy laws preclude them from releasing any information on the man.
The rural detachment of the RCMP is investigating the accident.
This is not the first time tragedy has hit the Guido family.
In February 2004, Guido’s brother Josh, 17, was one of two teens killed when an 85-year-old driver went through a red light on Tranquille Road and hit five teens in the crosswalk as they headed to nearby Bert Edwards elementary to play basketball.
Guido was the father of a two-year-old daughter with his girlfriend, Savannah Dakers.
He is also survived by his parents, Joan and Peter, brother Nathan and sister Tessa.
