Red Lake ice holes cause concern

Kamloops RCMP are warning of holes being cut in the ice at Red Lake, northwest of the city.

Mounties have been told of men fishing at the lake and using a chainsaw to cut holes in the ice.

The holes measure about four feet by seven feet and the ice is between two and three inches thick.

Staff Sgt. Doug Aird said police are concerned others could inadvertently fall into the holes.

Aird said those walking near the island on Red Lake should use extreme caution, especially when venturing to the west side of the island.

He said RCMP will be increasing patrols at the lake.
