Hotel-tax revenue rises

Kamloops’ hotel-tax revenue continues to climb as 2012 comes to a close.

Tourism Kamloops CEO Lee Morris said hotel-tax revenue for the year to date is now seven per cent higher than forecast, up from five per cent earlier this quarter.

Occupancy rates in the city are also rosy.

Compared to provincial averages, Kamloops hotels have a two per cent higher market share for the year.

Morris, who appeared before  Kamloops city council this week for a year-end report, said Tourism Kamloops is looking to make further inroads into Northern Alberta and the B.C. Interior in its 2013 marketing and will continue touting the Tournament Capital as a pet- and family-friendly destination.
