Bus driver locates missing nine-year-old girl

UPDATE: Tamika Lonechild was located at about 6:30 p.m., police say, by a public-transit bus driver. She was riding the bus, and is now being returned home by Mounties.

Kamloops Mounties are looking for a nine-year-old girl who didn't show up at home after school on Thursday, Dec. 20.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Fran Bethell said Tamika Lonechild left Stuart Wood elementary at about 2:30 p.m.

"She was to take the bus home but never arrived," she said.

The girl's family is new to Kamloops, Bethell said, and she failed to return home after school one day last week as well.

In that instance, she was found a few hours later inside a store.

Lonechild is described as a native girl with dark skin, standing five feet tall and wearing a purple coat and purple-and-white running shoes.

Bethell said investigators are hoping she'll be spotted in a retail store.

Anyone with information can call police at 250-828-3000.
