WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Gaglardi trial to take place in June
In April, Tom Gaglardi had charges laid against him for allegedly breaking federal laws while carrying out construction work on a lakefront property he owns in Savona — allegations he is slated to dispute at trial next summer.
The majority owner of the Kamloops Blazers and outright owner of the National Hockey League’s Dallas Stars, Gaglardi is a Vancouver-based businessman with strong ties — personally and financially — to Kamloops and the surrounding area.
According to court documents obtained by KTW earlier this year, the charges allege Gaglardi and his father, Bob, contravened federal legislation by first clearing and then filling land — actions “that resulted in the harmful alteration, disruption or destruction of fish habitat, the foreshore of Kamloops Lake.”
In addition to Tom and Bob Gaglardi, Northlands Properties, Gaglardi’s company and the force behind the Sandman development under construction in downtown Kamloops, is also named as an accused party.
Three days have been set aside for trial in Kamloops provincial court, beginning on June 18, 2013.
Pre-trial conferences have been scheduled for April 8, 2013, and May 13, 2013.
The charges aren’t the only legal trouble Gaglardi has found himself in as of late.
In September, a local traffic-control company filed a lawsuit against Gaglardi and Northlands, alleging the millionaire failed to make good on a bill of less than $300.
Interior Traffic Control is seeking $268.80 — plus $156 in court fees — for work done at the Sandman construction site on Lorne Street in February.
