Liberal leadership hopefuls coming to Kamloops
Kamloops will be Liberal-centric this coming week as four of the nine Liberal Party of Canada leadership candidates visit the Tournament Capital.
First to arrive will be Justin Trudeau, who will be at the Tk'emlups Indian Band's Moccasin Gardens on Monday, Jan. 21, at 3:30 p.m. Trudeau will then speak at a public event at Thompson Rivers University's Grand Hall at 5:30 p.m.
Following Trudeau will be David Bertschi, who will meet supporters on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m. at the Red Beard Coffee Shop at 449 Tranquille Rd. in North Kamloops.
Wednesday, Jan. 23, brings two more leadership candidates — Martha Hall Findlay and Karen McCrimmon.
The pair will speak at a public event at 5:30 p.m. at Hoodoos restaurant at Sun Rivers.
The nine candidates seeking to succeed former leader Michael Ignatieff, who lost his seat in the May 2011 federal election, are: Trudeau, Bertschi, Hall Findlay, McCrimmon, Marc Garneau, Joyce Murray, Deborah Coyne, Martin Cauchon and George Takach.
All nine will take place in the first of six debates on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. in Vancouver. The debate will be broadcast live on the CBC News Network and online at cbc.ca.
The party will elect its new leader on April 14 in Ottawa.
