Kamloops firefighters will continue to help fight fires elsewhere
Kamloops firefighters will continue to chip in on major blazes in Merritt, Sun Peaks and Rivershore Estates.
Kamloops city council has agreed to renew a fire protection agreement between Kamloops Fire Rescue and the three communities.
The agreement allows the communities to call on Kamloops Fire Rescue for help in battling structural fires.
Local fire response teams must already be on the scene, and the department has the right to decline requests if they don’t have the firefighters to send out.
Kamloops Fire Rescue Chief Neill Moroz said in the past 10 years, the department has been called to five fires under the agreement — two in Sun Peaks, two in Rivershore and one in Merritt.
