Police seek witnesses to highway accident
Kamloops Rural RCMP are looking for witnesses to an accident that occurred just east of Peterson Creek Bridge on Friday, Jan. 4.
The incident, which happened at about 8:35 a.m. on Highway 1 about one kilometre east of the bridge, involved an eastbound red Toyota following a line of three cars.
All were at reduced speeds due to icy road conditions.
A truck behind the Toyota tried to pass then veered into the car's lane. The driver of the truck lost control, forcing the Toyota's female driver to take evasive actions to avoid hitting the truck.
The Toyota started to slide and hit a light standard, sheering it off. The car continued off the highway, went down a 15-foot bank and landed in a ditch.
The deployed airbag caused neck injuries to the driver and the vehicle was totalled.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the RCMP detachment at 250-318-1800.
