RCMP raided a sophisticated underground marijuana grow operation Wednesday, seizing approximately 7,000 plants and arresting one man.

Police believe this grow operation is part of a larger network of grow operations in the area that police have been investigating for some time.

The search took place on an 80-acre rural property on Wells Bank Road near Sorrento. The plants were in various stages of growth.

RCMP discovered a large underground bunker which had been built beneath a hay shed. In addition, the residence on the property has been designed to operate a marijuana grow operation inside.

A 52-year-old Sorrento man was arrested at the scene and is facing charges of production of a controlled substance.
