Convicted sex offender to plead guilty to new charges
Brett Anthony Nelson will be in Kamloops Supreme Court on Monday, Feb. 25, to fix a date for a guilty plea into the most recent charges against the former teacher.
Nelson's lawyer, Rob Bruneau, has asked for a hearing with a judge alone and waived a preliminary inquiry.
Nelson, who was fired from his job in 2004 for engaging in sexual contact with a Grade 11 student, faces charges of sexual interference of a minor, breach of probation and failure to comply with a probation order.
Last year, he was sentenced to nine months in jail after pleading guilty to luring charges in connection with another incident. When he was released, Nelson was banned from going near parks, playgrounds, swimming pools or other places where children might be present.
He was also ordered to not communicate with children through a computer and to submit a sample of his DNA to a national criminal database.
He has been out of custody on $10,000 bail.
