Impaired-driving charges follow crash

A 54-year-old Kamloops woman faces charges of impaired driving and driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than .08 after a red 2013 Jeep Cherokee crashed into a retaining wall and rolled onto its side on Sunday, Feb. 10.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Columbia Street and 13th Avenue near downtown at about 11:20 p.m.

Kamloops firefighters had to cut off the top of the jeep to get the driver out of the vehicle. She was taken to Royal Inland Hospital, examined and released.

As she was released, the investigating officer took her to the RCMP detachment for breath samples. The results showed the woman registering at more than twice the legal limit.

She was released on a promise to appear in court on March 11 and was issued a notice of driving prohibition and a 24-hour driving suspension.
