Late-winter weather to blame for crashes
Icy roads and falling snow is being eyed as the cause of two crashes on the Coquihalla Highway on Wednesday, March 6.
Kamloops Rural RCMP responded to one accident just after 6 p.m. about two kilometres past the brake-check area west of Kamloops involving a Chevy Cobalt that had hit debris on the road left from a previous accident.
The driver and two passengers left the scene after calling for a tow truck and, once gone, a Toyota ran into the Cobalt.
There were no injuries in either incident, according to police.
Officers were also called to deal with a semi that had jacknifed and left the road, leaving the tractor-trailer component partway in the ditch near the area of Inks Lake. The driver told police he had been travelling slowly and his brakes locked up. There was extensive damage to the truck, but the driver was uninjured.
