WHO WILL LIGHT THE CAULDRON?
Organizers are keeping quiet when it comes to who has been chosen to light the cauldron at Hillside Stadium on Wednesday night.
“There’s going to be a big element of surprise,” said Tammy Campbell, business and client services manager with the City of Kamloops.
Speculation has been that Sen. Nancy Greene Raine would be the final Kamloops torchbearer, but she’s also believed to be in the running to light the big flame in Vancouver at the opening ceremonies next month.
Organizers likely wouldn’t have her do both.
However, an announcement last week that the former Olympic skier would act in “an ambassadorial role” during the Games means she probably won’t be Canada’s final torchbearer.
Another possibility is Mark Recchi, whose Boston Bruins are off between Sunday and Friday next week, freeing him up for a potential trip up to Kamloops.
Whoever it is, Campbell said the crowd is in for a show: “It’s going to be a good surprise. We’re really excited about it.”
