All public events should be accessible by all children
Editor:
We had taken our grandson down to Riverside Park on Friday, Aug. 10, to enjoy the water park and see what events were getting ready for the weekend festival.
The B.C. Wildlife Park had a petting pen with goats for the kids, which was nice to see.
However, we were shocked to be told by the attendant that, while other children could go through to brush and pet the animals, she could not open the gate wide enough for our grandson to get through in his wheelchair.
I gather she might have been afraid the goats would attempt to escape; however, if she had thought about it, his wheelchair would have blocked any escape attempt.
Thumbs down to the B.C. Wildlife Park (or any exhibitor) for not ensuring inclusion for all children equally.
