We need to learn to live with our coyotes
Editor:
It has come to my attention that Kamloops officials intend to trap and kill coyotes in the Dallas area of the city.
May I suggest alternatives to this practice?
First and foremost, coyotes are not a threat.
A little common sense goes a long way when coexisting with all wildlife.
Places like Niagara Falls have great Living with Wildlife programs and pamphlets to follow.
Sightings should not be an excuse to fear these wonderful song dogs.
They are adaptable, curious, intelligent and very easy to live with.
When a community practises good habits — such as not feeding wildlife, closing containers on garbage cans, keeping dogs on leashes and keeping cats indoors — being a leader in coexisting with all our wildlife makes more sense and serves a community well.
Please look over the plans Coyote Watch Canada has in place and how effectively they are working.
I have faith your community will work toward a better place to welcome all wildlife and to live with them in harmony.
