KMHA round-up, Feb. 18 to Feb. 20
- Ward lead Hawks, but Blue Thunder prevail
A four-goal performance from Benjamin Ward was not enough for the Ice Hawks, who lost 6-5 to the Blue Thunder in atom recreation action on Saturday.
Kyle Brayer, Arjun Gill, Joshua Jensen, James Bates and Liam Rose (2) lit the lamp for the Blue Thunder in support of winning netminder Spencer Shyiak.
Carson Desmarais registered the Ice Hawks' other goal.
The Blue Thunder followed their win on Saturday with a 3-2 loss to the Sandman Inn Sonic Boom.
Jordan Brown (2) and Jayden Grant potted goals for the Sonic Boom in support of winning netminder Josh Humphrey.
Rose and Connor Hall tallied for the Blue Thunder.
- Avs tie Aeros, beat Sharks
The Sandman Inn Avalanche finished the weekend with a win and a tie.
On Friday, Feb. 19, the Avs drew 4-4 with the Sandman Inn Aeros.
Keaton Dell tallied twice for the Avs, while Colton Davoren and Isaac Latta added singles.
Scoring for the Aeros were Evan Sonnleitner (2), Ethan Crawford and Andrew Warner.
In net for the Avalanche was Tyson Dmyterko; for the Aeros, Kaleb Vergo.
On Saturday, Feb. 20, the Avs rolled to a 7-1 win over the Sandman Inn Sharks.
Davoren had a four-goal outing, while Dell netted a hat-trick.
Andrew Shen ruined Dmyterko's shutout bid with a few seconds left in the third period.
- North Stars and Brock Auto solve nothing
Nothing was decided between the Knights of Columbus North Stars and the Brock Auto Avalanche, which tied 5-5 in a peewee house tilt.
Scoring for the Avs: Jake Barron (3), Derrick Smeeton and Keyron Pavlovich.
Bryan Callier was between the pipes for Brock Auto.
No details were provided by the Stars.
- Ice Tigers tie Wings, lose to Beez
The Spicy Chicken Wings and the Sandman Ice Tigers tied 3-3 on Saturday in afternoon atom recreation play.
Lighting the lamp for the Ice Tigers: Jayden Russell, A.J. McInnis, Jared Pringle.
Jacob Stewart, Sebastian Ouimet and Jarrett Mirtle replied for the Wings.
Victor Church was the Wings' netminder, while Ryan Clark backstopped the Ice Tigers.
The Killer Beez skated to a 5-4 win over the Ice Tigers on Saturday.
Evan Guizzo (3), Strider Williams and Lauren Walkley registered goals for the Beez.
Russell, Austin Stanton, Tanner Berardi and Birch Mierau put pucks in the net for the Ice Tigers.
Summit Krause posted the win in goal.
- Bantam Jardine Blazers roll to OMAHA final
The bantam AAA Kamloops Jardine Blazers swept the a best-of-three Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association (OMAHA) playoff series against the Vernon Renegades on the weekend.
Kamloops topped Vernon 9-1 in the first game.
Ryan Gropp (2), Carter Cochrane, Nic Fidanza, Carson Bolduc, Chad Butcher (2), Wes Matsuda and Addison Bazian scored for Kamloops in support of winning netminder Liam Mcleod.
The Blazers skated to a 10-2 win over Vernon in Game 2.Gropp, Butcher (3), Joe Hicketts (2), Nic chyzowski (2), Mitchell Barker and Monty Chisholm did the damage for Kamloops.
Kyle Michalvosky was the winning netminder.
The Blazers will take on Kelowna in the OMAHA final.
- Peewee Jardine Blazers' playoff action
The peewee tier 1 Kamloops Jardine Blazers opened the Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association playofs with a 5-1 loss to Kelowna.
Mac Alberts scored Kamloops' only goal. Dario Piva assisted.
- Devils burn the Warriors
The atom development Western Roofing Devils proved too much for the Westside Warriors on the weekend.
On Saturday, the Devils skated to a 9-1 win over the Warriors.
Breckin Erichuk (3), Johnny Ludvig, Eric Marasco, Tyson Gayfer, Corson Nordick and Jacob Pilon bulged the twine for the Devils in support of winning netminder Taylor Kaban.
On Sunday, the Devils topped the Warriors 9-2.
Ludvig, Pilon, Erichuk, Justin MacInnes (2), Cole Howaniec, Seiji Brown, Tyson Gayfer and Haden Nordick tallied for the Devils.
The Warriors will be in Salmon Arm for the playoffs in March.
- Thunder top Sharks, tie Wings
The Kamloops Sandman Thunder posted a win and a tie on the weekend.
A 10-3 win over the Sharks saw Brandon Schanzenbach (2), Skye Conners (2), Zane Ferguson (2), Connor Lafleur, Braeden Crowe, Grady Christiansen and Ben Prokopetz register goals for the Thunder.
Logan Studer, Zachary Bullock and Isaac Derose replied for the Sharks.
The Spicy Chicken Wings proved a tougher task for the Thunder, as the teams played to a 6-6 tie.
Conners (3), Lafleur (2) and Thomas Wojak scored for the Thunder.
Branden McKimmie registered a hat-trick for the Wings, while Kassidy Neil (2) and Victor Church replied for the Thunder.
- Outlaws and Blackhawks skate to tie
The Southgate Radiator Outlaws and the Blackhawks tied 6-6 in atom recreation playoff action on Friday.
Cameron McElroy scored four goals for the Outlaws, while Austin Morphy and Preston Guerra each scored twice for the Blackhawks.
Both teams are vying for a spot in the game of champions on March 9.
The Outlaws are in action again on March 5.
- The Boom and the Beez
The Sandman Inn Sonic Boom blanked the Sandman Killer Beez 4-0 on Saturday at Memorial Arena.
Dylan Dudley, Jordan Brown (2), Cosmo Conradi and Jayden Grant potted goals for the Sonic Boom.
Josh Humphrey posted the shutout in goal.
- Spicy Wings too hot for Ice Sharks
The Spicy Chicken Wings topped the Ice Sharks 7-4 in atom recreation action on Friday at Memorial Arena.
Cameron LeDressay, Brandon McKimmie (2), Jacob Stewart (2), Riley Toporowski and Sebastian Ouimet scored for the Wings in support of winning netminder Nik Shufletoski.
Replying for the Ice Sharks: Cordell Davidson, Taylor Russell (2) and Chris Denner.
- Peewee Mystix earn weekend split
The female peewee AAA Kamloops Mystix split a doubleheader with Clearwater on the weekend.
On Saturday, Clearwater doubled the Mystix 4-2.
Makenna Fitzgerald and Anna Morrish scored for the Mystix.
Kamloops bounced back in the second game, in which Kendall Fitzgerald scored a hat trick, while Makenna Fitzgerald, Hailey Balatti-Cooke and Kacey Seymour added singles in a 6-2 win over Clearwater.
- Chargers win once at tourney
The bantam house Kamloops Northern Trailer Chargers posted a 1-3 record at a weekend tourney.
The Chargers finished the tournament with a 5-3 win over Surrey.
Landen Mohr, Joel Knuttila, Vince Finnen and Shaymus Stachoski (2) scored for the Chargers in support of winning goalie Alex Meyer.
The Saints lost games to Kamloops MJB Law (6-2), the Hope Wildcats (9-3) and Kelowna (7-1).
Stachoski, Finnen, Mohr and Brogan Llyod lit the lamp for the Chargers in those games.
- Black Knights silence the Blue Thunder
The Timbits Black Knights notched a 12-4 win over the Timbits Blue Thunder in initiation D play on Saturday at Valleyview Arena.
Aiden Sutter (4), Kimberly Davidson (4), Jaden Zunti (3) and Ty Haywood Farmer scored for the Black Knights.
The Blue Thunder were the recipients of goals from Domenico Comita (2), Jackson Diehl (1) and Dexter Williams.
- Bulldogs come out even in Chilliwack
The Timbits Bulldogs posted a 2-2 record at the Chilliwack Junior Bruins' initiation D tournament on the weekend.
Noah Bradley and Liam Campbell scored for the Bulldogs in support of Bailey Monteith, who earned the shutout, in a 2-0 win over the Chilliwack Ice Hawks.
The Abbotsford Red Wings topped the Bulldogs 3-0 in Game 2.
In Game 3, the Langley Screaming Vikings beat the Kamloops squad 5-3.
Jacob Proulx scored all three Kamloops goals against Langley.
The Bulldogs topped the host Bruins 8-0 in Game 4.
Monteith earned his second shutout of the tournament.
Reed Watson, who scored three times, Campbell and Proulx, who had two goals each, and Bradley were the Bulldogs' goal scorers.
- Ice Ducks top league standings
The atom development Kamloops Ice Ducks finished first in Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association play after posting two wins on the weekend.
On Saturday, the Ducks topped a Penticton squad 8-3.
Sam Fuoco, Carter Adams, Jarret Daoust (2), Brendan Roche, Ty Kolle (2) and Chad Petrie scored for Kamloops in support of winning goalie Kenda Woodland.
On Sunday, the Ducks again topped Penticon, this time by a score of 5-3.
Daoust, Kolle (2) and Connor Milburn (2) scored for Kamloops.
Max Palaga was the winning goalie.
- Flyers triple Warriors
The Timbits Flyers tripled the Timbits Warriors 9-3 on Saturday at Valleyview Arena in initiation D action.
Scoring for the Flyers: Jacob Haines (2) and Corbin Guenther.
Cameron Ryles and Brendan Kirschner registered assists in the win.
Scoring details for the Flyers were not made available.
