Janes: Western will likely return to Rivershore
The chances of the Western Championship returning to Rivershore Estate and Golf Links in 2012 are “pretty good,” says tour commissioner Rick Janes.
“We had a very good meeting today with some key people from the organizing committee,” Janes said on Sunday, June 12.
“We just need a few months to put together the finances to make it financially viable.”
What the tournament really needs is a title sponsor.
“That would do it,” Janes said.
The Canadian Tour fronted the $125,000 purse at this year’s event.
That is not likely to happen again next year.
Janes said the addition of a third tour event in B.C. (there are two now, the Western and the Times Colonist Open in Victoria) might attract potential sponsors.
“There’s some chance we’ll have three events in British Columbia, which makes it pretty attractive for a sponsor to be part of that kind of circuit in this province,” Janes said.
