Pack signs Egyptian volleyball player
The TRU WolfPack men's volleyball team has added some Egyptian flavour with the signing of 24-year-old middle Mohamed Abdel Moniem, a six-foot-eight Cairo product.
“I am looking forward to playing in Canada and for TRU,” said Abdel Moneim, who is taking a break after two years of studying in the Faculty of Pharmacy at Cairo University to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at TRU.
Abdel Moneim was voted the top blocker in the African Youth Men’s championship held in Morocco in 2006. He was a part of two African Championship teams (in 2004 with the junior squad in South Africa and 2006 with the youth team in Morocco).
“I think Mohamed will make an immediate impact in blocking and after he adjusts to our setters, he will become a regular contributor offensively,” Pack head coach Pat Hennelly said
“I believe he will be a help in terms of leadership, much in the same way Behlul (Yavasgel, former player and current WolfPack assistant) was for our program. I think he is very serious about volleyball and school. That attitude will certainly help our team.”
