Blaze squads fall just short at provincials

  • U17 boys edged by West Van in championship tilt

The under-17 Kamloops Blaze boys won a silver medal at the Challenge B Cup provincial tournament, which wrapped up in Penticton on Sunday, July 10.

The Blaze fell 2-1 to the West Vancouver Spuraways in the tournament final.

Keenan Zimmerman scored Kamloops' only goal.

The Blaze did not concede a goal in pool play, outscoring Shuswap, Terrace and Creston by a combined score of 11-0.

Blake Mostyk (2), Justin Donaldson (3), Clayton Farber (3), Scott Bjorkland (2) and Sean Jubinville scored round-robin goals.

Nathan Masi was between the pipes for Kamloops in all four games.

 

  • Blaze top Peace Arch to win bronze

The under-13 Kamloops Blaze boys won bronze at a Challenge B Cup provincial tourney in Penticton on the weekend.

Kamloops defeated Peace Arch of Surrey 3-0 to win bronze.

Brennan Atamanchuk, Evan Wynne and Damon Theara tallied in the win.

Kamloops finished 2-1 round-robin play, knocking off Coquitlam Ford Metro, 3-1, and Comox Valley Red Strike, 1-0, while losing 2-1 to Nelson.

Pasqualino Cuzzetto, Jan Glowczynski, Dawson Barclay, Jason Hothi and Diangelo Ramunno scored goals in the round robin for the Blaze.

Jake Barron played in net the entire tournament for the Blaze, giving an outstanding performance and earning two shutouts against the top two coastal teams.

 

  • U13 Blaze girls blanked in tourney final

The under-13 Kamloops Blaze Orange girls won silver at the Challenge B Cup provincial championships in Powell River on the weekend.

Powell River blanked Kamloops 1-0 in the tournament final.

The Blaze opened their tourney with a 3-0 win over Nelson.

Delaney Collins, Marie Ettinger and Hannah Marra scored in the win.

Kamloops, in its second match, shut out West Vancouver 2-0.

Ettinger and Hayley Guizzo scored for the Blaze.

The Blaze closed the round robin with a 2-1 win over Comox Valley.

Guizzo and Elisa Godard scored in that tilt.

Brenna Worsfold is the Blaze's goalkeeper.
