Spence earns bronze at Games
Tori Spence of Team B.C. had strong performances in the cycling and mountain biking events at the Western Canada Summer Games, and won a bronze medal.
Her combined time in the three cycling events — time trial, road race and mountain biking — was third best at the Games, earning her a bronze in the event's overall standings.
Spence, with a time of 1:16:45.3, finished fifth in the cross-country mountain biking race at the Kamloops Bike Ranch in Valleyview on Sunday, Aug. 14.
Anna Schappert of Manitoba won gold with a time of 1:09:20.1, while B.C.’s Amanda Wakeling won bronze, finishing the race in 1:12:41.4.
Spence placed fourth in both the road race and time trial portions of the cycling event at the Games.
In the 80-kilometre road race, which was held on Dallas Drive on Friday, Aug. 12, Spence crossed the finish line in 2:37:29.20, less than a second behind first-place finisher Schappert (2:37:28.40).
In the time trial event on Thursday, Aug. 11, Spence finished a 14-kilometre trek on Dallas Drive in 23:04.40.
Caeli Barron of Alberta won the race with a time of 22:02.8.
