Broncos tame gridiron Colts; Wildcats edged by Sun Devils

The Kamloops Broncos defeated the Salmon Arm Colts 18-7 in weekend pee wee minor football action in the Tournament Capital.

The win was the Broncos’ first of the season.

Hunter Dairon scored a touchdown on a 57-yard run, while William Bogie and Callum Gorman also found the end zone following long receptions by Rorik Munson and Victor Church.

Defensive standouts were Dairon and Jonathan Larocque, who made several tackles that led to yards lost for Salmon Arm.

Tristan Hunt and Ripley Martin were also solid on defense.

Meanwhile, the Kamloops Wildcats were edged 18-16 by the visiting Westbank Sun Devils in weekend pee wee play.

Mattias Nelson, Nick Berry, Jimmy Gustason and Drake Loewen anchored the Wildcats’ defence with15 combined tackles and one quarterback sack.

Ben Prokopetz ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns, while Reggie O’Rourke added another 60 yards on the ground.

Sean Smit converted on two extra points to round out the scoring for Kamloops.

(Converts count as two points in community football).

The Wildcats host the Kelowna Dragons on Sunday, Sept. 11, at Hillside Stadium.

Kickoff is at 3p.m.
