Vikings vanquish Voodoos
The Valleyview Vikings opened their season with a 28-24 win over the AAA Rutland Voodoos in non-conference play on Friday, Sept. 9, in Kamloops.
Adam Aselstyne, the Vikings’ starting pivot, rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown on six carries in the first quarter before leaving with a shoulder injury.
Grade 10 backup Lliam Wishart was forced into his first varsity action and twice completed passes to Josh Bray inside the Rutland five-yard line, with both passes leading to rushing touchdowns.
Wishart finished 2-for-4 with 53 yards passing and one rushing TD.
Greg Nygren, Cole Cail, Riley Frank, Joe Castellano, Evan Mutrie, Tomas Jensen and Daylon Jones played well on defence for Valleyview.
The Vikings head to Squamish next week for a date with Howe Sound before beginning conference play on Sept. 24 at Vernon. ave Eagles/KTW
