The Kamloops Classics placed third at the MJB Law Ice Classic Invitational Swim Meet, which was held at the Canada Games Acquatic Centre from Friday, Dec. 9, to Sunday, Dec. 11.

Placing first was the University of Calgary, with the Vancouver Pacific Dolphins swim club earning bronze.

The meet featured 500 swimmers from 17 teams. Kamloops won 15 medals.

Austin Phillips, in the 12-and-under boys’ division, won gold in the 100-metre freestyle, silver medals in the  400-metre freestyle and 400 individual medley and a pair of bronze medals in the 100- and 200-metre fly.

Carel Ackermann, in the 14-and-under boys’ division, won silver in the 200-metre breaststroke and a pair of bronze medals in the 50-metre breaststroke and 200-metre individual medley. He set club records in the 50-metre breaststroke and 400-metre individual-medley races.

Colin Gilbert, in the 14-and-under boys’ division, won a silver in the 200-metre butterfly and a bronze in the 400-metre freestyle.

In the 1,500-metre freestyle event, Gilbert qualified for the Western Canadian Swimming Championships (WCSC) in Winnipeg in February by posting a time of 17:09.45.

He also set two new age-group national times, in the 200-metre backstroke, with a time of 2:27.09, and 200-metre freestyle, with a time of 2:08.69.

Olivia McKay, in the 10-and-under girls’ division, won silver in the 50- and 100-metre butterfly.

Sophie Ogilvie, in the 10-and-under girls’ division, won a bronze medal in the 100-metre butterfly.

Ethan Phillips, in the 12-and-under boys’ division, won a bronze medal in the 400-metre freestyle.

Robert Smentek, in the 15-and-over boys’ division, won a bronze medal in the 50-metre backstroke.

Megan Dalke qualified for the Canadian Age Group Championships in Calgary in July in the 800-metre freestyle and 400-metre individual medley events.

Sky Camille qualified for the WCSC in the 50- and 100-metre freestyle events.

New AAA time standards were earned by Marina Ellison, in 100-metre fly and 200-metre freestyle, Paetyn Freeze, in the 100-metre freestyle and 200-metre backstroke, Austin Phillips, in 400-metre individual medley, and Kieran Waterous, in the 400-metre individual medley.

Gabius Giles, Ben Kloska, Logan MacLeod and Ally Sandulescu all earned new AA standards and will be heading to B.C. AA Championships in Chilliwack in February.
