The TRU WolfPack men’s hockey team would like nothing more than to play in front of a raucous crowd at venerable Memorial Arena this weekend.

TRU (8-4-2) is hosting the Eastern Washington University Eagles (5-9-2) in B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League action at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, with the rematch scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28.

“Every league game is crucial so every game we can get into the win column is important,” WolfPack head coach Don Schulz said.

The Eagles disposed of the WolfPack twice earlier this season, 6-2 on Oct. 7 and 4-3 on Oct. 8. Both games were played south of the border.

TRU has undergone a facelift since then and has welcomed back a host of players including defenceman Cody Rose, who was named the league’s player of the week for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 22.

He recorded four points in a home-and-home series with the Okanagan College Coyotes.

The Coyotes won 4-3 at Memorial on Friday, Jan. 20, but TRU bounced back with a 4-3 win in Kelowna on Saturday, Jan. 21.

WolfPack defenceman Cody Lockwood scored the game-winning goal on Saturday.

Making their debut this Friday after missing the fall semester are forwards Rylee Orr and  Kevin Hanna.

“If everyone’s healthy, we should be a force to be reckoned with,” Schulz said.

Forward Jassi Sangha leads the Pack in scoring with 23 points, 11 of them goals, good enough for fourth in the BCIHL ranks.

Bret Kellogg leads the Eagles in scoring with six goals and 16 points.

Ben Van Lare of Simon Fraser University (SFU) leads the league with 31 points, 18 of them goals.

The Pack, with 18 points, are third in the BCIHL behind second-place Okanagan College (10-4-2, 22 points) and first-place SFU (12-0-3, 27 points).

After this weekend, only two of the WolfPack’s remaining eight regular-season games will be played in Kamloops at Memorial.

Tickets are free for TRU students who display a valid identification card.

It costs $5 per ticket for the general public.

The games will be broadcast live online on sportscanada.tv for those who cannot make it to Memorial.
