The Grey Cup and Mr. Hockey are coming to Kamloops!

Pro football’s oldest trophy — which will be up for grabs this November in the 100th Grey Cup game in Toronto — will arrive in the Tournament Capital for a number of appearances on Wednesday, Feb. 1, and Thursday, Feb. 2.

One of those appearances will be at Interior Savings Centre (ISC) on Wednesday when the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers play the Spokane Chiefs.

Hockey legend Gordie Howe, who will be in town for Mr. Hockey night, will partake in a ceremonial puck-drop at 7:05 p.m.

Log on to blazerhockey.com for a chance to meet Howe.

Accompanied by members of the 2011 Grey Cup champion B.C. Lions, the Cup — donated in 1909 by Albert Henry George Grey, Canada’s ninth Governor General — will be on display for all to see and have photos taken with the majestic mug.

The Cup will be at the Tournament Capital Centre on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., during which time there will be merchandise giveaways and a contest for those wearing their best Lions gear to win tickets to this summer’s Cirque du Soleil show at ISC.

It is expected receiver Geroy Simon, centre Angus Reid and defensive back J.D. LaRose will be in Kamloops with the title trophy.

The champions will return to Kamloops in June for  training camp as they prepare to defend their title.

The Cup will also be making a stop at the Commodore Grand Cafe and Lounge, 369 Victoria St., later Wednesday, from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Finally, the Cup is expected to make a stop at South Kamloops secondary on Thursday morning before continuing the provincewide journey with a stop in the Cariboo.
